Family Care Services is part of the Adoption Coalition of Franklin County.  Every year, the ACFC tries to provide at least one high-quality training or panel event for free to resource parents, parents/grandparents, professionals, volunteers, and others in the community.  This year, we’re excited to welcome Dr. Brian Allen from the Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey!  We heard him speak this summer at the Pennsylvania Permanency Conference and knew he would be perfect to bring to Chambersburg.  Dr. Allen will provide insights into the contemporary science of child development, the development of self-regulation, attachment, and evidence-based treatments.

Brian Allen, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and Psychiatry and Behavioral Health in the Penn State College of Medicine, and core faculty in the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network at Penn State University.  Dr. Allen served for 10 years as the Director of Mental Health Services at the Penn State Children’s Hospital’s Center for the Protection of Children.  He conducts research on the developmental impact of childhood trauma and maltreatment, the effectiveness and implementation of clinical interventions for children, and problematic sexual behavior among preteen children.  His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Children’s Miracle Network, and other public and private agencies.  To date, he has published over 50 scientific papers and book chapters and is the author of the recently released book, The Science and Clinical Practice of Attachment Theory: A Guide from Infancy to Adulthood (American Psychological Association).  He currently serves on the editorial boards of multiple scientific journals and is an Associate Board Member of the Society for Emotion and Attachment Studies.
